The very best of Provence’s traditions go on display in a colourful festival over the weekend from the 7th of August until the 9th (Friday – Sunday) 2015.
Here is a programme of events: Friday 7th August 2:30pm Boules competition sponsored by the local SPAR market and the Boules Association (La Boule Fleurie). If you are interested in participating you can register by calling 06 85 03 73 11.
Saturday the 8th August: 9am walk through the village pointing out all the fountains and sources of water by the local historical society (Cotignac Autrefois et Aujourd’hui) as well as the Hiking association called Cotignac Randos. The walk begins at the Tourist Office. At 2:30pm there will be another boules competition. At 5:30pm a conference/lecture on the subject of the famous Marcel Pagnol (French writer and producer of movies) by Mr Claude Karket at the Grainage (ground floor). The event is organised the Cotignac Autrefois et Ajuourd’hui. At 9:30pm there will be an operetta performance at the outdoor theatre. On Sunday the 9th of August the festival continues with a 9:30am mass (provençale style) at the local church. This special mass includes entertainment by local folk band “Lei Jouven Dracénene” who will continue to play all day throughout the village! From 9:30 you can also check out the display of traitional Santons (along the Cours Gambetta). An artisans market of various foods and decorative items will also take place. There is also an exibit of traditional style paintings (by artists from Quinson) at the bottom lavoir on Cours.
Aioli is the traditional dish of Provence (in the Summer, particularly) and this year will see a competition of who can make the best. Starts at 11am on the Cours. At 1pm this turns into a huge Aioli meal and aperitifs and wine will be paid for by the municipality. For reservations you can to to either A Table (traiteur), L’Infosino bakery, Le Fournil de Pascal (bakery) or the Tourist office in Cotignac. At 4pm more music by Lei Jouven Dracénen as well as another Boules competition and at 6:30 pm a lecture performance called “L’eau des collines” by the theatre group “Le Théâtre sous les Etoiles” and the local association Carctères at the outdoor Rocher theatre. Don’t miss the free aperos (usually wine and crisps) at the Place de la mairie at 7pm, sponsored by the municipality and the Coing (Quince) Committee. At 9:30pm there will be a parade of traditional drummers through the village and you can join in the fun from the bottom of the Cours Gambetta. At 10pm watch the BIG beautiful fireworks display from the place de la mairie. FIreworks take off from between the Medieval Forts.
